Always On USB

I have enabled "Always On USB" in my X61s BIOS but my cell phone won't charge when the laptop is suspended and plugged into AC. Does this work for anyone else?

I read a review that says the T400s has a special USB port for this which makes it sound like a unique feature. If that's the case, what exactly does always-on provide with the X61s?

Have you checked all of the USB ports?

I believe that the left-side one does not work with always-on USB.

I found that with "USB Always On" enabled, if my cell phone is off and I plug it in, it will turn on. It doesn't turn on if "USB Always On" is disabled.

So it appears that that setting does provide some power to the USB ports, just not enough to charge a RAZR. All the ports behaved the same, including the ones in the ultrabase.

USB ports supply 450ma-500ma. Many newer cell phones require 700ma or more to charge. One can use a "Y" USB cable to draw current from 2 USB ports, i.e., 1000ma will more than suffice for most USB devices. The "Y" USB cables are inexpensive:

Hi,

I'm hoping to get USB ports working all the time on my X6 Ultrabase with X61s. Despite enabling "always on USB" option in Power Manager and BIOS, it still won't power when I shut my computer down. Can anyone give advice.

Thanks.
