Mysterious 8 MB Drive

#1 Post by Hauskaz » Mon Oct 26, 2009 7:02 pm

On my ThinkPad X60 Tablet, in some programs such as HD Tune, there's an 8 MB storage device with no label. Windows Explorer doesn't see it so I can't try writing files to it, but I have been able to benchmark it (it's rather slow). What is this?
ThinkPad T42: Pentium M 735 @ 1.7 GHz, 1.5 GB PC2700 DDR SDRAM, 160 GB 5,400 RPM Western Digital Scorpio, 9-cell Battery

I take it your main drive is formatted with NTFS then? It's a Microsoft 'feature'.Can't be used, always there except under Windows 7 where it is now 100MB. That's progress for you :D
X60 - upgraded to a X61 2.5Ghz motherboard and 8GB RAM (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit) 64GB SSD
X61 - 2Ghz and 4GB RAM (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit) 32GB SSD
USB DVD-RW DL/Blu-Ray reader

Yes, as the previous poster said. It's a NTFS system partition, you can't/shouldn't delete it.

Anyhow, with the current HD capacities, who cares about 8MB?
