12 Cell Battery for X61s *PIC WARNING*

#1 Post by pompeiidang » Mon Nov 02, 2009 12:37 am

Hi, does anybody have any experience with some of the 12-Cell batteries on ebay that's compatible with the X61s?

Awfully big and a little pricey. For my money I think buying two generic 5200mah 8 cell batteries (each $38 delivered after $3 Bing cashback on ebay) makes more sense. But if you only want to carry one battery, then this is the one.

I may be a guinea pig if I can work out the shipping. I'm getting to the point where I need a replacement battery for my beloved X61s, and this may fit the bill. The odd size isn't that bad, since I usually use the laptop on a flat surface, and I could sure use the extra capacity.

I'll report back when/if a) I get the battery b) it blows up/works fine. :)

Spectacular! Current 8 cell is only giving me about 4 hours whereas it used to be 5.5-6 hours. Looking ahead to getting another battery for a long flight in a month.

Please post what your experience with it is. Almost pulled the trigger on ordering 2 8-cells until I saw your post.

Thanks.

Any idea if it'll also fit in the ultrabase easily?

I don't think it will fit in the ultrabase (for this particular battery). If you look at the ebay pictures, the additional 4 cells are added to the end of the battery at a 90 degree angle downwards.

I bought a 12 cells battery for my X61.

Yeah it won't fit the Ultrabase..

The battery protrudes downward.. It's both good and bad. Good that it elevates the laptop and gives it room for air flow. With the battery, your thinkpad will no longer log into your thinkpad sleeve.

Can somebody post a picture(s) from all sides with the X61s and 12cell-battery attached? Would be very nice!

Much thanks in advance!

It would also be cool to know how much % of battery life they really add (as they might be of worse quality than original lenovo).

Definitely.

The seller never responded to me, so I wasn't able to square away shipping to my current location. I may order if I get back to the US soon (and if it actually does provide some increased capacity...)

Can someone who bought one of these report back? Do they actually provide extra capacity? How do they fit?

Thanks in advance!

It's big, lasts longer and takes forever to actually charge up.
How much longer does it last ? No idea since I can't be bothered to run any 'run-down' tests but I've used it for a few days (upto 6 hours a day at least) with out it being plugged in which I certainly couldn't do with either 4 or 8 cell batteries.

12 cells is scary big for a laptop that is pretty efficient in the first place. Hopefully you get some decent longevity.

I just received my 12-cell battery from China. It took almost 3weeks to arrive but everything else went smoothly with the seller.

My 12-cell lasts up 11,5 hours with office/surfing on internet w/wlan on.

I bought it from the eBay Seller "batterystars", I can only tell you the price in EUR, which was 38,00 EUR including shipping costs (free shipping), which should be around 50 US Dollar.

I will post the pictures here as soon as I have received it.

How many Watthours do you get under 'Full charge capacity' with the 12 cell?

I remember buying some of the eBay batteries for my T4x's, and they never delivered the capacity that was promised. All of the batteries were already around 10% below design capacity when used for the first time. In comparison, my 8cell battery is still at full design capacity after more than one year and 93 cycles.

My battery takes 96220mWh at full charge, and yes it takes forever to charge back to full capasity!

Does "it takes forever" mean that it charges slower than original batteries, or just takes forever because it has such a high capacity?

Anyway, receiving mine soon.....

The original 8cell is 74880mWh, so the 12 cell in this case should give just under 25% more runtime.

The extended battery gives 28000mWh, so that would be 102880 mWh together which amounts to 37,4% more runtime. But I think the 12 cell will be lighter and smaller.

Received it some weeks ago, but then my CPU Cooling became bad.

So what I received got:
Design Capacity 95040
After loading it, it had:
Last Full Capacity 99530

That's good if the numbers are right

Pictures will follow soon!

Very odd...I posted to another 12 cell battery thread recently, and when I searched for more (thought it was odd that was the only one) this thread didn't come up.

Anyhow, I'm interested in pictures of what the battery monitor displays when it's inserted (what is it reported as etc), and how thin or flexible the area where the extra cells is.

Thanks. :)
