I think a D400 XGA panel with go into a X61s. Any opinions?

Here's the skinny. The Dell D400 12.1" XGA panel is very common (SAMSUNG LTN121XJ-L02/L03/L04/L05/L06/L07)... and looking at the spec sheets ( http://www.gblcd.com/datacenter/samsung ... XJ-L02.pdf and http://www.wiselink.tw/pdf/12.1/HT121X01-101.pdf respectively), they use the same connector as the Boe-Hydis HT121X01-101... and also conform to the same pinouts. Finding 12.1" XGA panels with ground-pin-1 and the right 20 pin assignments is tough... seems a lot use the 20-pin layout of the X31, etc. series, which while the cables LOOK the same, and will even plug in... looking at the specs, you'd smoke your machine or the panel.

Does anyone have any input as to if this will work? Has anyone tried this?

I believe they should work. I seem to recall that L07 has been used in some X6* models as original screen. However, you listed L03 also, which according to it's datasheet has the wrong pin order. I don't know if I have an incorrect datasheet or if L03 really is different from the others of that lcd series.

Dell uses different pinouts, you'll blow a fuse on the board if you proceed...

It was already established in the op that this is not the case for all Dell models.

Also, some Samsung panels came without eeproms (EEID) on earlier machines. The eeprom eas then added, but the manufacturer's part number stayed the same, just a different revision.

Followup:

The D400 XGA panel works just fine in the X61s. There is no middle screw hole for the rail, but the top and bottom screws hold it adequately. It's not as good of a panel (about 5 year old LCD tech), not as white-bright and less of a viewing angle... but for $35+ ship off of fleabay, hey, beats the $150 for the replacement OEM boe-hydis.

Typing this reply on the X61s reassembled now. Yay.
