http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lenovo-X61-Laptop ... 4cec085210

This is for sale near me and i went to have a look at it tonight. Firstly its the first time i have seen an X6 series in the flesh. Wow, what lovely machines they are. So light and small, yet still with a decent size keyboard. I love'd it.

Anyway the laptop was in good overall condition, although the keyboard has a lot of shine. Obviously been well used. The rest of the cosmetics were good. The auction includes the laptop only, no PSU, nothing else at all. He has had it seven months (off ebay) and is selling it because he bought another with the WWAN aerial.

Some questions.
1. Can you get restore discs from Lenova.
2. Are replacement keyboards easy to source if i wanted to make it mint.
3. Its type 7673 and the serial is L3 L**02 08/03. Is there anything you can tell from that. If it was made in 2008 will it still have warrenty.

I have to say i'm quite cautious when it comes to ebay, and i normally go for items that have original boxes, receipts etc and some history. However X6 series dont normally come like this.

thanks
Paul.

To give a few quick answers to your questions(just keep in mind that I'm in the US and I'm not 100% sure that this will be the case in the UK, but I don't see why it wouldn't be):

1: You can get restore discs from Lenovo, just by calling them directly, or you could also search Ebay or the Marketplace forum here. Expect to pay about 20-30 quid for them if I have the exchange rates right(about $40-50USD). Just get your model number and they'll send you the factory restore discs for the machine. Alternately, if the original HDD is present you could always restore it to its factory state by pressing the Thinkvantage button when you boot up.

2: You can readily find a replacement keyboard. I hate the whole 'shine' which develops and I'm pretty picky about my keyboards. I'm not sure what they cost, but try the Marketplace forum or Ebay and you should be able to get your hands on a new one.

3: You'd have to have the full serial number in order to figure out the warranty status on this system. At least here in the US, you can check the ThinkPad support website. I bought my X60s(now Frankensteined into an X61s) off of Ebay and found out that the warranty just expired a few months before, but I also found out the T60 I purchased not too long ago ended up never having a warranty for one reason or another. If having a factory warranty is important to you I would check it that way.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. Regarding the warranty, is the 08/03 the manufacture date, and is the standard warranty three years.

You may also be able to generate your own recovery media if you have a cdrw drive. You get to do this one time, so if it's not yet been done on this laptop, you could do it. As mentioned, you can restore also by pressing Thinkvantage button. If you restore to original software, you can then make a set of recovery disks, even if one was made before.

You might have a one or a three year warranty. Mine actually came with a four year warranty but I think that is unusual.

Does not look to bad, maybe "fair' condition, kind of hard to tell from the angles of the pics. It's easy to get replacement parts, especially if you are patient and monitor some the suppliers in China. Bought a few things and it has turned out well.

How much is L155? It looks worth around 300$

I've been to see it, apart from keyboard shine its in VGC. Vista has also been reinstalled using the thinkpad button.
There is no power supply provided.

Mike
And is it transferable ?

Thinkpad warranties go with the machine, not the buyer, so they are transferrable.
