x60 WWAN Problem

#1 Post by pershing » Sun Dec 06, 2009 11:16 am

Hello, I've bought the X60 from ebay, In auction was written that NB hasnt got a WWAN, but on the pictures it had led under the screen and antenna on the right. After that I realized that It has got a Slot for SIM too, next to the RAM. The problem is that i have installed cinngular wwan driver, windows detected the wwan card, but it often turns on and off and I cant use it. It's like you plug in some USB device and after a few seconds you plug it out.[sound in the windows]. WWAN card is enabled in bios.
+ edit and there IS the WWAN card installed

Check to see if the WWAN card is a Lenovo-branded (i.e., it has a FRU #) Sierra Wireless MC8755, which is the only GMS 3G card that the X60 supports with the standard BIOS. If that is not the internal WWAN card, then we can discuss how to "enable" the card you have.

Okay, but what is the FRU#? The card must be an MC8755 with a FRU#. For example, an MC8775, even with a FRU #, will not be accepted by an X60/s standard BIOS.

When I first got my X60s (with MC8755 card), I very occasionally had a similar problem - where the WWAN card repeatedly came and went, as if something was repeatedly plugging and un-plugging it. It only occurred every now and then, and only after waking up from sleep.

I never did get around to figuring out why it happened or how to solve it, as I later flashed with a Zender BIOS and upgraded to the (much) faster MC8775. I have only ever tried WinXP on my X60s, maybe the drivers made for newer versions of Windows are more stable.

(Despite the MC8755 supporting up to 1.8Mbps HSDPA on paper, I was never able to get it to go above 384kbps 3G)

any other solutions?
Can be the firmware of 3G card flashed?
Or should I try to flash bios?
