Hi;
is it possible to speed my X60 up with new chipset? My current configuration is T2300 1.66 GHz processor.
Have anyone tried upgrade?
thanks!
kaka.

The processor in the X series machines is soldered to the motherboard. You would have to replace the entire motherboard. This is definitely possible, but costly.

Sorry it is not possible. The CPU is soldered to the systemboard. Try an SSD or more RAM.

thanks.
I already have max. possible RAM, and fastest possible HD with biggest cache :) I just love my little X60 and would like to keep using it for everything, including my simulations. And it's soooo slow, I see difference if I run the same algorithms on desktop with faster proc. Thought I'll give it a try.
Thank you for answers, anyway.
Best,
kaka.

The fastest processor for your X60 chassis is a 2.4GHz T8300 Intel Core 2 Duo. The only compatible motherboard for you with that processor is FRU #42W7860.

That's an X61 motherboard, which will fit perfectly in place of your existing X60 motherboard. Here it is:

Your present memory and every other part you have now can be transferred from your existing motherboard to the one shown above. The board is a perfect substitute.

A Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz processor is a significant jump in speed from a Core Duo 1.66GHz processor, especially if your simulations are multi-threaded and can take advantage of the dual cores.
