Overheating?

#1 Post by thebitguru » Mon Jan 04, 2010 10:41 pm

Hi, I recently replaced the hinge on my X60 tablet because one side of the older hinge broke. Everything went well (no extra or missing screws, scratches on the boards, etc.), but now the system stays on for a few minutes (~5 minutes), but then hangs. If I force it to shutdown and try to turn it back on right away then the power light comes on, but the system does not boot and neither do I see anything on the screen (completely blank, i.e. it doesn't even turn on). Given the fact that it starts up OK when it is cold and runs for a few minutes, I am guessing that this might be a heating issue, but there wasn't much that I could do wrong from that perspective. I have pulled it apart once and put it back together to make sure that there wasn't anything that I misplaced, but that didn't make a difference. The system went out of warranty a little while back.

Does any one know where I might be messing up or anything that I can do to fix this?

Thanks!

When you replaced the hinge, what did you do? I'm asking, because it is theoretically possible toreplace the hinge with out removing the screen. Did you remove keyboard, palmrest, screen? Anything else?

Thanks for the reply, richk. I took the bezel off of the LCD and had opened majority of the top layer of the body (referenced the hardware service manual). I am a curious one :)

I also posted on the Lenovo forums and with Stanfield's help figured out what the problem was. Along the way I had opened the RAM cover and took out one stick. Apparently, I didn't put it back in hard enough. I took out the stick one more time and put it back in, and now everything is back to normal.
