Hi
latly my x61s feels warmer. Today i downloaded
http://www.cputhermometer.com/
I have had experience last week that pc restart without warning, once it was when decrypting a dvd.
I run Win XP pro SP3
Readingis 75 Celsius = 167 fahrneheit
Has anybody of you experience to guide me to an answer?

The spontaneous reboot you experienced may or may not be heat related. You certainly should see no thermal problems with a CPU running at 75c if that is the temp under load. Is 75c the temp at idle (no load)? If so you have a cooling problem.
BTW, if you are interested you can search for your CPU in Google, then look for Intel's website for information specific to your CPU. They will give the max HIGH TEMP. I own a 2GHz Core 2 Duo X60 and it is rated, as I recall, at 100c max.
If you are up to the challenge of removing your keyboard, you can do a good job of blowing dust out of the TP (especially the fan) ... which may reduce temps.

My 'Frankensteined' X61s also has an L7700. I'm not sure if this is a 'benchmark' of sorts, but my idle temps range between 46-53C or so on AC power(although with my power settings the way they are they do drop when on battery; I'm running at about 41-42C right now).
When playing games, I'll see between 75-78C load temps, so if those numbers are close to mine both idle/load, I'm doubting you've got a cooling problem.
If 75C is your idle temp, then you most likely have a cooling problem. You can pull your keyboard off and clean your fan. If that doesn't help you might have a dying/dead fan, or have to reapply thermal compound to your CPU. These are tasks which require removing your motherboard... which isn't the easiest task in the world but can be done.

Thanks for answer.
75 c is when ac is connected and i use maximum performance "full speed" and doing some dvd encryption, full use of cpu. I also experience hi temp when watcing a movie, on x61s screen, with vlc. Movie like 7-800 Mbyte, screen on full ligth.
When using a lower power profile, like now, it is 55 c.
I have no problem dismounting computer, have worked as a computer expert in 10 years. Now i build houses, was bored crawling under other peoples desks...
I think i add some new thermal paste, arctic silver, and also clean my my fan.

That seems a tad on the warm side for idle temperature, but nothing out of the range normal. Keep an eye on how quickly the temperature ramps up under load. If the contact between the CPU and heatsink isn't good, the temp will move from 55C to 75C very quickly under full load. The T60 base that I'm using as desktop was doing this before I re-applied the thermal compound.

I has a similar issue - the x61s would shut down w/o warning. Eventually I traced it down to times of heavy graphics activity (though not always). Ended up calling Lenovo service and they sent a tech to replace my fan. Turns out some x61s have 2 fans (the 2nd is for gpu) but mine has only 1. I also started using TPFanControl. No problems since the new fan and the TPFC software. I hope this helps.

This statement is not correct,
not entirely, to be precise.
While some X61s units do have two fans, the second one is for WWAN/WLAN (if the machine has wireless 'n') card, and not GPU since Intel integrated graphics rarely runs hot enough to cause concern.

I stand corrected. I was told by the phone support person about the 2nd fan but no longer sure where the association with the gpu came from.

Can anyone give me FRU number of this second fan?
I dont have WWAN but i still want that fan there.

Not all X61s motherboards have the slot for the second fan...only a few of them.
What's the FRU number of your board?

Computer is 7666-A8G
this is from lenovo's support
Planar Intel Core 2 Duo processor L7700 (1.8GHz), Santa Rosa/Intel Pro, Low voltage
7666-CTO, A7x, A8x, B4x, A9x, AAX, B5x, B6x
7667-CTO
7668-CTO,A3x,B3x
7669-CTO 42X4706 R N
FRU is 42X4706
down from this is
Planar Intel Core 2 Duo processor L7700 (1.8GHz), Santa Rosa/Intel Pro/2nd Fan, Low voltage
So my guess is that 42X4706 doesn't support 2nd fan?

I believe that this is correct, no second fan slot on your board...
