WWAN upgrade + access connection [ask]

#1 Post by jwid » Sat Jan 23, 2010 1:14 am

1. my x60 has a built-in evdo wwan card from verizon which i have replaced with sierra wireless mc8781, supported by zender bios.
ever since i replaced the factory-installed card with the one from sierra (non-lenovo), the wwan radio button in thinkvantage access connection had gone leaving only wireless and bluetooth radio on/off setting.
using 3G watcher application from sierra give me full control of the radio on/off setting, therefore i've been using it.
is there anyway to integrate the wwan card with the access connection back so i can use fn+f5 function again?

2.With the 3g application running+sierra aircard mc8781 gps enabled running, i can't have the gps application to have satellite fix, can someone help me figuring out what is wrong?
testing condition: outdoor, clear sky, 3 hours and still no sat.

i'd like to attach pictures of the wwan card in installed position and the 3g antennae of the x60(the one attached on top right corner of the screen), what is the best way to attach pictures in the forum?

cheers

The best was to include pictures with a posting is to upload the pictures somewhere else (to a free picture hosting service, for e.g.) and then to insert the URL into your post as a link that leads to the picture. I personally prefer it if you insert tiny thumbnail images of the pics as well, but I don't think there is clear agreement on that.

The cardinal rule is NOT to include large images (50KB or bigger when added all together) in your post directly because this slows down browsing by smart phone or dial-up users. Also, if you include any actual images (even small ones like thumbnails), you should add a warning to the subject line. This rule appears as rule number 5 in the Rules of the Road.

Instructions on how to use "BBCode" to format the hyperlink and/or image are available in the BBCode Help Section on Images.

thanks pkiff for the info.

anyway, getting the answer about the wwan from a member of lenovo forum named lead_org, that the x60 does not support gps function which built-in a wireless card....does this mean that is why the x60 can't get sat fix ? who knows...

Try using the WAN antenna cable (Red) on your Sierra AUX connector.

Parrots a lot, understands little... be wary of any "advice" from that user.

You may find this useful..... http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=68539

In any case, in my experience GPS using any of the WWAN cards is a "sort of works" thing at best. The WWAN antennas are far from optimal for GPS signal reception, so the GPS function generally just plain wont work indoors at all, and may work out of doors.

Cheers,
