I think the effort to maximize the use of an older model by trying to exploit every possibility is laudable. I have a free mini-pci-e slot in my T61 that I never used, and putting an SSD in there would be great.

Sure.

And if you happen to find any reasonably priced mini PCIe SSD (*not* mSATA), please do let us know.

Cheers.

The Super Talent CoreStoreMV SSD 64 GB is available for 75EUR in europe.

I still haven't found any confirmation of a scheme to make a thinkpad boot from it though.

Anyone heard anything?

I was looking into this option as well a while back before I upgraded from my trusty T61 .
As far as I recall, booting the T61 from the mPcie is not supported, but this is not something that I have tested myself.

Have you guys read the thread? If you want to use a Mini PCI-e SSD, you'll have to use them in the 2.5" SATA slot or solder the i/o from it to the pci-e, and when you do that, then what is the point? The drives in this form factor are slower and more expensive.

Hi,
What you're looking at has been discussed fairly often, to varying degrees of success AFAIK. As mentioned, true mini PCIe SSDs are both expensive and probably not the best perfomers

However, I have had some success with physically locating an mSATA SSD in the PCMCIA slot and running a ribbon cable to the main hard drive connector (which I sacrificed). It was part of this project: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=107360. That machine was recently stolen, so until I can find a satisfactorily cheap and working replacement, the project is on hold...again. I'd be happy to answer questions pertaining to my project, and otherwise I'm sorry for somewhat hijacking the thread.

I hope this may help answer some of your questions though...
