I have an old X60. Unfortunately, I had disfunctionality with my Outlook program. Specifically, I was unable to open e-mails or view them in the reading pane and I could not use the 'find a contact' or 'help' boxes. The Microsoft technician repaired this problem and while performing a msconfig diagnostic under the system configuration utility's services tab he discovered the reason for this problem was due to the IPS Core Service. The Microsoft technician has the IPS Core Service disabled and Outlook is functioning properly now. My laptop is out of warranty since it is quite old. I am not technically savvy and I want to know if I should have the IPS Core Service removed as I do not know whether or not it is valid Lenovo software and if so, what it does. Or would this negatively impact my laptop's functionality and should I leave the IPS Core Service on my laptop and merely disabled?
I have XP Professional Version 2002, Service Pack 3. It is a stand alone in my home and I have it connected via a hard connection to a wireless router which supports my blu-ray player via wireless and another ancient desktop via a hard connecton since it is right next to the wireless router. The laptop and the desktop are not networked together and so far as I know, I have no VPN.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could give me some direction on this matter and I apologize for my lack of technical knowledge. Thanks.
IPS Core Service
Re: IPS Core Service
Based on the very good description you provided, it is perfectly safe as well as beneficial for you to leave the service removed or disabled. (Let me know if you want a "technical" answer.)flyfysher wrote:... should I leave the IPS Core Service on my laptop and merely disabled?

Re: IPS Core Service
IPS is a legit Lenovo service (program) - it's for VPN stuff so if you don't use VPN's then leave it disabled.
