Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
Can I buy any used x61T (ex. ebay) and then just swap the screen to the higher resolution one (superview) or I will need some other parts? I'm planning to buy x61T but I would really like better screen, I can't find any on ebay.
Thanks,
davepol

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
Why not check the Lenovo outlet store? Last time I checked there were a number of X61 Tablets with the 1400x1050 screen.

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
Can I just get x61T with 1024x768 and replace it with 1400x1050?

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
Before I even attempt to answer that question, I have one for you:
Have you ever replaced LCD on a tablet?
If the answer to this question is "no", believe me when I tell you that you don't want X61T to be the first tablet you'd be doing that operation on.
Is it theoretically doable? Yes.
Are there any caveats along the way? Certainly.
Good luck.

I changed screen on the notebook, but not a tablet
I'll just look for X61T with apps

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
There were several of them at the Outlet, and prices were not bad...
Swapping a LCD on a standard ThinkPad (or most other conventional laptops for that fact) is nowhere near as difficult as it is on a tablet, and any monetary difference that you end up paying for a machine with SXGA+ LCD will be money well spent...
Happy hunting.

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
thank, currently I don't think there is anything on ebay.com but I will continue searching.
I was wondering if I can just buy one of those 1400x1050 tablet screens on ebay and fit it onto
the x200 (not tablet)?
thanks,
davepol
I mean the widescreen affs for x200 tablet not 1400x1050, sorry

It has been done, there are a couple of threads on that subject matter, I believe, but can't recall the specifics right now...

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=84962 as for the AFFS panel, one left only
X41T was only available as XGA, and with that unfortunate 1.8"/4200rpm hard drive. The screen is very nice though, as nice as any XGA on X60/61 tablets.
Unless you can find a perfect one at a ridiculous price it's not worth the bother IMHO.

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
Hi davepol,
I have x61 tablet (7767) and I've done this a month before. There are 2 types of sxga+ screens that you can use - HV121P01-100 and HV121P01-101. Difference between 100 and 101 is in digitizer (if you buy it with it, if you not than this number doesn't matter) - one is G4 other G5. No need of making any hardware or software corrections , they are completely interchangeable (BIOS and Vista recognizes it). Look at this very useful video http://www.vimeo.com/3933798?utm_source ... ite+Links) - everything is shown, even how to change digitizer if you buy display without it.

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
I upgraded from an X60T to X61T, and my new one has 1400x1050 screen on it. My X60T's front glass had about 1mm space between the LCD and itself, but my X61T's LCD looks like fused to the front glass. When I put them side by side there was a big difference, especially under sunlight. If I were you, I would go for an original hi-res X61T.

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
thanks for the reply, I watched the video, it seems like a lot of work but it's worth it.
So I understand that if I will buy one of the sxga+ screens form ebay it will work on
any xga x61T?
for ex. this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %26otn%3D1
Thanks,
davepol

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
Yes, this LCD with FRU 93P5607 will work for you, but I am not sure for digitizer ,because it's not mentioned is it G4 or G5.
In my case I bought display from itthinker (from ebay) with FRU 93P5609. As I told you LCD's from both FRU are the same, difference is in digitizers.

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
What about X61T with standard screen? Does look better then lets say current T400 screen (washed out colors, very poor viewing angles)?
I want a laptop mostly for reading and photoshop so I'm looking for a nice doesn't have to be high resolution. I already have T400 which makes my eyes hurt after 10 min.
Thanks,
davepol

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
What's a "standard screen"? All X6x tablets have IPS/AFFS screens, and their quality is vastly superior to any TN panel used on laptops these days...

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
By standard screen I mean low res screen (1024x768), I'm ok with lower resolution if the viewing angles and color reproduction is better then my T400. If every X61T has a IPS screen then I guess it's time to look for one on ebey

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
That is NOT true. When talking about XGA (1024x768) screen on X6x tablets, there are 3 models:ajkula66 wrote:All X6x tablets have IPS/AFFS screens, and their quality is vastly superior to any TN panel used on laptops these days...
1. Normal XGA (yes, it is TN panel!)
2. IPS/AFFS XGA (you are lucky, if you got this.)
3. Ultralight XGA (both light in weight and super bright as the Ultralight screen on X61s)
The order of quality is 2>3>>1. But I found 3 is better in viewing angle and colour than the Ultralight screen on X61s (don't know why). If one uses tablet outdoor a lot, 3 is really great!
See two X61 tablets with screen 2 (IPS/AFFS) and 1 (TN) side by side:
Example 1: side by side, with angle
Example 2: side by side, with angle
My favouritePad is X61. My eBay feedback is here.
My next goal of upgrading my super X61 is: XGA -> SXGA+

Re: Need Advice (buying x61 tablet)
@i.thinkpad:
While I have absolutely no idea where you've located the mutant with the TN panel, I am extremely amused with the fact that it's out there. Care to share the model number, better yet the parts lookup?
I've owned dozens of X6x tablets, including pre-production units, and have NEVER seen anything like that.
Although I can't pull it right now (Lenovo's site seems to be down) I doubt that a TN panel of any kind was mentioned as an option in the HMM. Feel free to correct me.
