Willing to pay $$$ for somebody to help me install

#1 Post by atwnsw » Wed Feb 24, 2010 9:03 pm

I have an X61s (7668-CTO) and would like to do a clean install of Windows 7 Professional on this computer. It has a DVDRW in the ultrabase.

While it has XP Professional currently on the computer, I find that it runs too slow.

1) Can I install Windows 7 Professional on this machine? 32 or 64 bit?
2) Will it make it significantly faster/stable?

I will pay $25 via paypal to anybody who is knowledgeable and has experience in doing a clean install on the X61s unit with drivers/etc....

Yes, in theory, there are lots of posts about how I can do it myself. But the reality is that there is inevitably a problem/issue that arises that is beyond my understanding.

In case you are wondering, I plan on installing Windows 7 Professional because my wife is a teacher so it costs me only $65 for this software. If there is another version which you suggest, I am open.....

Please email me at atwnsw@gmail.com

Thanks

Anthony

You certainly can do a clean install with Windows 7 if you like and it will run well. You'll need a OEM Windows disc to do it. I'm assuming your wife's school would provide you with one?

For general system performance a faster hard drive or SSD is likely the best route to snappier performance. What's your machine type? I don't know that it would make it any faster. Generally XP offers better system performance as it has less overhead than Windows 7 all things equal, which they never are.

You might want to go through MSCONFIG to see what's turning on with Windows. You can disable anything you're not using. That might help speed things up a bit.

I think you are unlikely to find any version of windows 7 that is as stable or easy to deal with as windows XP. Also, if you don't feel comfortable doing the install, a 64-bit anything is not for you. I suggest using the $65 to buy a couple of bottles of wine for you and your wife.

Off topic: richk, This is the first time I have seen you make a mistake! It's ($65+$25) = $90.

That's only if he has to pay his wife $25 to drink a bottle of wine with him ;)
