Motherboard replacement question

#1 Post by scrannel » Sun Feb 28, 2010 3:48 am

My X60 suddenly shows no sign of life. When I plug in the power adapter the indicator light flashes weakly, but no power. Also, none with battery. Does this indicated a shot motherboard? If so, how expensive are they and how hard to replace myself? Thanks

If you need to replace the motherboard, then any of the following motherboards will fit an X60 base: X60, X60s, X61, X61s.

Replacement is quite simple, requiring only a Phillips screwdriver. The motherboard lifts out, and you "drop" another in its place. The Hardware Maintenance Manual has all the disassembly/reassembly instructions:

Here are the X6x[/s] motherboards:

Thanks. Also, can anyone recommend a reliable place to have my X60 serviced?

The "s" cases are not the same as the non-"s" ones

That's true, but it does not matter for what scrannel wants to do. The X60 non-"s" case, which he has, will accept perfectly both the "s" and the non-"s" boards.
[The "s" cases will accept only "s" boards, but that is of no concern here.]

Thanks guys...BTW, if I'm going to put in a different motherboard, any particular type you'd recommend as better than another? For instance, the S? Thanks
