x61: Antenna on the side of the LCD. What is it & what for?

#1 Post by falsafayg » Sat Mar 27, 2010 3:37 pm

Just bought X61 (#7675) from ebay. I noticed there is antenna like on the side of the LCD, but top part of antenna is missing.

I get my internet like in other machines without any problem. My question is:
1) What is this & what is it called?
2) Am I missing something (it looks that it is not working)?
3) What to do to make it working?
Thanks.

It's the WWAN antenna. As far as how to make it work, you need to subscribe to and pay for Network access to a provider(like AT&T or Verizon), you need a WWAN card in your machine, and a SIM card. What is the complete machine type/model from the bottom of the T60. .e.g. 7675-3CU.

Thanks for the response.
(1) The complete model # 7675-CTO.
(2) Why do we need WWAN (from Verizon or so)? What are additional services or features that we do not get from regular internet?

WWAN gives you wireless internet access anywhere ... using cellular technology.

I can see the convenience of having the Internet anywhere, but is
the speed (vs WiFi G for example) a let down?

Harryc:
As I said, complete ID #: 7675-CTO
When I checked the lenovo site for the parts, it says:
Mfg.#:42T0928
FRU #:42T0929
VERIZON WIRELESS WAN ADAPTER FRU YES

1) What does it really mean?
2) How to enable this feature, if I can?
Thanks.
