I've been using my x61t since June 2007, the day this model started shipping in US. I originally ordered mine with multitouch/multiview 1024x768 resolution. Since I had a problem with my touch screen lately in Windows 7, and also other hardware problems, I sent it in to the depot for repair.
On the process, Lenovo replaced my screen. I noticed this because it didn't have any thin layer in the front, and also the color was more closer to a regular color. My original MT/MV XGA screen had a thin film (for the touch input) and the color was too warm, blurry looking. At first sight, I thought they replaced it with a non-multitouch regular screen so I was about to call them. When I finished all the reimaged Vista Business setup, I found out that my touch screen inputs work! It doesn't seem to be a capacitive touch screen, but I don't see any flexing when pressing the screen with my fingernail. Still registers the pressure. How is this possible?
I like the new screen because it has much better colors and doesn't have any visible layer. Does anyone know if Lenovo replaced their MT/MV x61t screens to better ones in the later end of the production cycle? How can I check the manufacturer of this LCD panel?
-Edit-
I should have mentioned I had a 3M vikuiti screen protector on my tablet since day one. The replaced screen doesn't have any screen protector yet. There is a slight chance that the screen protector was causing the blurry screen, but I can't tell since I never saw my previous screen without a screen protector. But the 3M screen protector is a high quality (costs nearly $30), and I don't think it has any color or would cause an appearance of layer.
-Edit2-
Now I placed another new 3M vikuiti screen protector on the screen. I still don't see any visible thin layer that used to be there before, and the colors are still great. So I'm guessing Lenovo changed the multitouch screen during the later end of the life cycle of x61t. While placing the screen protector, with very careful inspection using a flash light to get rid of all the dust, I noticed there are small dots on the screen's most outer layer like a matrix. Each about 3mm apart. I love this tablet except that lenovo's repair depot returned me my tablet with lots of scuff marks.
