I have seen lots of thinkpads, but I got something in that I don't understand. It is an Extended life battery, FRU 40Y7904. It connects to the docking station port and has what looks like a battery connector that connects to nothing. Is there a battery inside? If so, how do I tell if it is working? Am I missing a piece?

Maybe the battery connector is there so it can be charged using the standalone charger? Just a thought.

That makes sense. When I get the machine running. I can see if the battery shows up in power manager.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-61259 (External battery charger - supported batteries list)
ThinkPad Battery 45 (4 cell) Previous name: ThinkPad X60 Series Extended Life 40Y7005 - 40Y7903
40Y7005 seems to be the same as 40Y7904.
