MC8775 firware update on a X61s: Firmware update fails...

Dear all,

I 've managed to throw away the Verizon MC5725, and to install on my X61s the Sierra MC8775. I run Windows 7 ultimate, and I can finally use WWAN on O2 here in UK without O2's dongle.

However, I only get 3.6 Mbps. I 've tried to upgrade the 8775's firmware to the latest H2_0_8_19 using the update binary tool R1.6.0.3.

Unfortunately, I 've not been successful....every time I try to update (starting from the smaller .cwe file), the update tool has never managed to download the .cwe file...

I start the binary tool, I browse and then select the smaller .cwe file, I click "OK", the update tool starts to download the file, but it fails to download 100% of the file....it then "freezes" for 1-2mins, and then a message is displayed "the download has failed".

1. Has anyone managed to resolve this? I believe I am using the correct update tool...

2. Is there a later update tool? (I've not managed to locate one..).

3. Is there a later firmware file than the H2_0_8_19 ?

Any help is much appreciated and very, very welcomed....

Thanks,
Christos

H2_0_8_19 with R1.6.0.3 is the correct combination, and it works. Are you certain that you have "good" (uncorrupted) files? Let me know if you need any of the files.

Note: With H2_0_8_19, you will not reach 7.2 with a one-antenna MC8775 because you need two antennas to process the "diversity" required for 7.2 ... but you will see 5+ in areas which have good signal.

Dear friend,

If you are kind enough, please e-mail me your uncorrupted files & update tool (in case something is corrupted...).

If you need my e-mail address, it is:

kokkolis@yahoo.com

With many, many thanks.

Best,
Christos

PS: You are right about the 8775, there is only one "main" connection (it means my X61s' other Aux antenna, is currently unconnected). Is there any way to "connect" my Aux antenna to this 8775? I know the 8775v has both Main & Aux connectors, but I am not sure there is a "Lenovo, unlocked" version.... If there is not one, then my only other option is the Ericsson f3507g, -which needs a hacked BIOS, and taping pin20 (meaning I can't manage the connection from Access Connection...). Any thoughts? Thanks once more !!

kokkolis - out of interest, what antennas have you on the X61?

The 2x in-screen WLAN, 1x on-screen retractable 'blob' WWAN, 1x L-shaped in-palmrest WWAN?

Hi Cros,

I wish I knew the answer to this one...what I am sure of, is that I am having the expandable antenna on the laptop's right hand side of the screen bezel, and that there is one antenna connected to the MC8775...hope this helps...if not, I 'll try and take some pics next time I open the laptop for an upgrade of the Wi-Fi card.

Thanks.
