DIPM on X60s running Windows 7?

#1 Post by jayk » Thu Jun 24, 2010 7:35 pm

I just picked up a used X60s... nice machine as most of you know. I was thinking about installing an SSD and this led me to start researching SSD power consumption. Surprisingly, most SSDs have a pretty high idle power consumption (0.5-0.6W is common, compared to 0.9-2W for a 5400RPM hard drive). The Intel X25-M and X25-V have an idle power as low as 75mW, but this requires that the system supports DIPM (Disk Initiated Power Management). It looks like Lenovo supports this on many machines as of Vista (see http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67811), so clearly the hardware can support it. Does anyone know if you have to do anything special to make it work on a machine with Win 7?

Thanks,
Jay
