Since I installed Windows 7 (first release candidate, then format HDD and full version) I have never been able to establish a good wireless connection. I can connect to many different networks (home, public work,etc) and use the internet, but it's much slower than it should be, and usually the connection will stop (the status bar will say connected to internet, but I can't actually browse the web.). Has anyone had this problem? I've installed all of the latest drivers, but nothing seems to work well.

Any help please...I'd hate to go back to Vista jst for WiFi.

A forum member has loaned me an X60T for evaluation. I am seeing this same problem with a router I am using while on travel. The X60T has Windows 7, a/b/g wireless, and ThinkVantage AC 5. The router is an older Linksys Wireless-B 2.4GHz device. I have connected to this router in the past with my T60, no problem. The X60T however has the following issues that weave in and out while in wireless mode:

1) Connects to router, connects to internet but with very slow speeds. Speedtest.net show 0.10Mbps throughput via cable modem. Another computer on the same router (wired) can get >18Mbps down >3.5Mbps up
2) Connects to the router but not out of the router to the internet
3) Won't connect to either the router or the internet
4) Signal strength fluctuates all over the map even when physically next to the antennas

Power management on the wireless card was a major issue on my T60 when I first got it. I've disabled wireless power management everywhere indicated in the above link on the X60T. Everything I can find for the wireless card is set for maximum performance/no power saving - Windows panels, Access Connection screens, Device Manager, etc.

I've tried disabling AC5 and configuring Windows 7 wireless myself. I have admin privs on the router and tried a couple of different encryption schemes as well. No luck.

The X60T did connect to my Wireless G Netgear router at home for the short time I tried it before I went on the trip .

Hardwiring the X60T to the router with a cable to the Linksys B router works. Speedtest.net shows 16Mbps down and 3.7Mbps up.

Something is wacky with the X60T wireless and I am wondering what else I might try.

UPDATE
I did a system restore back to the configuration that the X60T came in. I got the newest drivers (9/2009) from Intel, uninstalled the driver that came with the machine, and installed the new drivers. Upgraded the router's firmware. Noticed that the X60T card was not getting the right DHCP information (ipconfig). Handcoded an IP address, mask, and gateway along with OpenDNS hosts.

--> Now, I can get a connection to the Internet when close to the router. Still very very low speeds when anything connects at all. Speedtest sites either show <<1Mbps down or the speedtest never starts.

Pinging the router - 192.168.1.1, google, and yahoo give a lot of dropped packets.

I tried someone's Toshiba Vista notebook on the same router. It connects fairly easily. Download speeds are ~3-5Mbps which are close to what I used to get with a T60 on this same network. No dropped packets on ping testing.

Resolved

The X60T connected correctly to another test router. Replaced the B model with a newer generation N unit and things are looking good and fast.
