X61T Replacing LCD Screen XGA to Multitouch

#1 Post by alangeemy » Tue Jul 13, 2010 12:06 am

Hi,

I have an X61T (776358U) with a broken XGA screen, an accident happened almost 2 years ago. Never got round to replacing it due to high cost.

A few days ago I was offered an X61T (7767B7U) with multi touch at an affordable price. The motherboard is not working but I've been told the screen works perfectly.

Can anyone tell me if the change to the Multitouch screen would be compatible with my unit? If it is, can I just swap the complete LCD unit with casing over and what will I need to do to make it work with my unit?

I would really appreciate any help given.

Thanks in advance

Alan

My first thought is that you may need to swap the LCD flex cable over as well; however the FRU part numbers on the LCD Service Parts index at Lenovo Support suggests that the cables are the same for Multitouch and non-Multitouch models, and you could just swap the LCD panel itself;

(note the "12.1-in. XGA+ TFT, touch panel with digitizer" section below the diagram, vs. the others)

I would want to avoid having to take the entire screen assembly/hinge off, if you can get away with it.
