Getting Sierra Wireless MC8755 in X60 working on Windows 7

Hi there,
Apologies if I'm missing something blindingly obvious, but has anyone got the MC8755 working properly under windows 7 32bit on this laptop? I've tried just about every MC related driver I can find and a couple of different versions of thinkpad access connections, and another couple of versions of vodafone mobile connect.
It all installs correctly and looks fine, it even scans and shows a local network available. The card powers on and off properly from alt and F5 and access connections. I can click connect and it goes through the motions, before infinitely hanging exactly half way through, never actually making the connection. I've checked the APN settings (pp.internet and web/web for un/pw) and tried everything else likely.
I'm trying to use a vodafone top up and go prepay sim. The annoying thing is I also have an IBM T60, with another sierra wireless hsdpa (I think the 8775) and that IS working fine (albiet very slow to connect). I can't see where I'm going wrong!
Has anyone got the 8755 WWAN working on an X60 under windows 7? Please tell me exactly how you set it up!
Thanks
