replacing wifi card X61

#1 Post by brainw » Tue Jul 13, 2010 11:21 pm

Hi everyone I have just replaced my old x32 with a x61 7674 J34 and I want to replace the wifi card to an atheros pci-e, as you likely already know if I use the first slot I get the 1802 error and if I tape pin20 and use the second pci-e slot it works fine, only prob with this is I can no longer use my Sierra Wireless MC8775 wwan in the first slot as the card is not recognised.

Can anyone suggest a workaround for this.

TIA.

Two solutions, both of which use the first slot for the WLAN card and the second slot for your MC8775:
1) Use a Lenovo-branded Atheros-based miniPCIe WLAN card, i.e., Lenovo FRU #39T5578. See below:

or
2) Use a modified BIOS, which will permit any miniPCIe WLAN card. [Read the Private Message (PM) that I sent you.]

Hi thanks for the advice, I have gone down the route of buying Lenovo-branded Atheros-based miniPCIe WLAN card as suggested to hopefully retain all the features.
