What is the next-generation TP to replace my X60s? I love the light weight and compact size, but I'd likea brighter LCD.

If I were you I would go for X200s or X201s. It seems that both of them come with LED LCD panels which are brighter than the crap we have on X60 and X61. Moreover, as far as I know both of them are very good in terms of battery life and performace.
I would be glad to upgrade to some X200 or X200s myself but right now I have no spare cash, and to be frank the need is not that pressing either. X61s has a poor screen and may run a bit too hot sometimes, but it does the job and that's all I need right now.

Yes, the X20x machines are about 30% brighter. If you want to go with the X200s or X201s with the WXGA+ screen, it's about 60% brighter. I really like my X200 and think the X20x machine seem more durable, though time will tell on that one.

while the x200/x201 are great machines, you should be aware, that they are having a significantly bigger footprint. ( just look up the size and cut a sheet of paper to help imagination). On the other hand they seem to be cooler and not much heavier.

with the same oand smaller size the x100 is the only option, even while not quite being in the same league.

cheers

True the X20x are a bit bigger, but you're getting a full sized keyboard and a brighter/better screen. As you've noted they run cooler too, which is a big plus. Mine runs near silent in low power mode.

Also, keep in mind that the WXGA+ panel on the X200s is far, *far* worse than the X6x-series ones contrast-wise. Most of them ship with low-end AU Optronics panels -- quite literally one of the lowest-spec panels from a manufacturer that isn't exactly at the top of the quality list to begin with.

That said, the X200s battery life is truly amazing, and were it not for the issues with the chassis, one would still be with me today (I replaced it with an X200 which I am much happier with.)
