X61 Dock Mode
X61 Dock Mode
is there any ways to configure x61 dock mode settings (internet connection profile; power management profile, external monitor; resolution etc )?
many thanks^^

Re: X61 Dock Mode
The best solution will depend on which options are available for your specific operating system. But I expect that each of those things can be managed separately using various Lenovo "ThinkVantage" applets. I know that the screen resolution and monitor arrangements can be set using "Presentation Director" under XP so that when you dock, it will automatically switch to whatever you've set it up to do. Also, Lenovo Power Manager gives you options of what to do when plugged in vs. when on battery (though I realize this is not exactly the same thing as docked vs. undocked).

Re: X61 Dock Mode
I am trying to do this under Windows 7. Would your suggestion be any different given an updated OS?
Re: X61 Dock Mode
I don't use Windows 7 yet, and so can't speak with confidence about it. But a lot of this stuff sometimes works in XP without even needing to configure it, so I'd be surprised if Windows 7 doesn't do an even better job.
Is there some setting that your system seems to be forgetting about when you dock? Maybe some Win 7 users here can help.

Re: X61 Dock Mode
When I undock the video output doesn't switch back from the monitor to the LCD.
Also, I would like to be able to configure it to use ethernet when docked and wireless when undocked. Other than that, it does register as docked and shows the dvd drive etc.

Re: X61 Dock Mode
Give it some time, or hit the Win+P button. This should make Windows rescan the options and determine that there is no external monitor attached, at which point the output will go back to the LCD.nchall wrote:When I undock the video output doesn't switch back from the monitor to the LCD.
When you dock, it will see that the Ethernet connection is present, and if it has any brains, will switch to it as it is faster. If not, you can play around with the metrics in the advanced network options (Network Connection Properties -> TCP/IPv4 -> Properties -> Advanced).nchall wrote:Also, I would like to be able to configure it to use ethernet when docked and wireless when undocked. When you undock, it will default to wireless as the only available connection.
