Thinkpad X60 inverter problem... maybe.

Last week, my x60 showed signs of a damaged or broken inverter. The backlight came on at start up, then immediately died. I assumed it was the inverter.

Today, my new inverter came. Upon trying to install it, I found out it was the WRONG inverter (I am assuming I bought one for the x60s or x61s). Frustrated, I just rehooked my old inverter and wallah! Its working again.

But I am unsure if it is reliable. Is there a way to run a diagnostics program to check the inverter? Is there something physical I can look at?

I would just replace the entire screen and get it over with...even better look for the screen with the complete lid.

As far as I know, there's nothing you can do to electrically test the inverter besides attaching it to a backlight that is rated for use with it and seeing if the lamp lights up. As far as a visual inspection, look for anything that has a burnt mark on it . A backlight that operates as you describe could mean that the inverter is intermittent, the backlight is getting too old, the lid switch is flaky, a problem exists with the motherboard or there's a bad connection anywhere between the motherboard and the leads of the backlight.
