Suddenly, Bluetooth

#1 Post by Lars » Sat Oct 23, 2010 8:15 am

A year ago I bought a used x60s. I installed XP Sp3 on it and all drivers
for this model listed on Lenovos site, including Bluetooth "whatever".
But when I tried invoking the software to show Bluetooth devices there
was a message that no Bluetooth device was found on my machine,
and the guy I bought it off had never mentioned any either.

No problem, I had never needed Bluetooth for anything anyway.
Eventually I uninstalled the "Bluetooth with enhanced etc .".

Now suddenly, last week, the x60s informs me it has found a new device
and needs drivers for it. Google tells me that the hardware number something
is actually a Bluetooth device.

I reinstalled drivers and software, and now I can connect to my cell
phone through it. Seems to work fine.

What gives? How come a device suddenly wakes up like that, after
a year or more? How come Windows did not see it before?

Probably, the radio was powered off. If you hit Fn - F5, you get an option toturn radios on or off

No, of course that is not it. I have had this computer for a year and
turned the radio on and off a hundred times for the wifi, but there
had never been any Bluetooth option in sight.

I assume there is a bluetooth icon on the LED plate?
If not then someone added a module and an LCD cable later.
There are perhaps two reasons bluetooth suddenly appeared.
The first is that the bluetooth connector got loose from the module.
and in moving the lid a connection was made.
The second is the same thing except it's the LCD cable that lost,
then found the connection.
If you didn't know the bluetooth module is behind the X60s plate
and is attached to the LCD cable. So both the lid and/or the cable could
be the culprits.

I'm with Tim. Loose connection seems like the only viable cause that I can think of
Cell phones are my specialty. Got questions? Ask away.
