Suddenly, Bluetooth

A year ago I bought a used x60s. I installed XP Sp3 on it and all drivers
for this model listed on Lenovos site, including Bluetooth "whatever".
But when I tried invoking the software to show Bluetooth devices there
was a message that no Bluetooth device was found on my machine,
and the guy I bought it off had never mentioned any either.
No problem, I had never needed Bluetooth for anything anyway.
Eventually I uninstalled the "Bluetooth with enhanced etc .".
Now suddenly, last week, the x60s informs me it has found a new device
and needs drivers for it. Google tells me that the hardware number something
is actually a Bluetooth device.
I reinstalled drivers and software, and now I can connect to my cell
phone through it. Seems to work fine.
What gives? How come a device suddenly wakes up like that, after
a year or more? How come Windows did not see it before?
