It is not possible to disable the connection at this time

#1 Post by peter-h » Sun Oct 31, 2010 4:16 am

On WIFI. This is the exact error message.

Google comes up with loads of hits e.g.
http://www.chicagotech.net/troubleshoot ... blenic.htm

and I have tried a number of them but none seem to work.

Doing a Repair obviously doesn't work because a Repair disables the wifi, which fails.

I have two very similar x60s laptops; the 1st is fine but the newly acquired one cannot be disabled.

I have compared the two laptops and the protocols which are enabled (under control panel /networks) are identical on both, now. The 2nd laptop had some extras (TVT e.g.) but I disabled that. So I can't see any obvious extra protocols which are running on the 2nd one.

However the 1st laptop is SP2 and the 2nd is SP3. Maybe SP3 broke it? (I can't put SP3 on the 1st one because it then fails to boot...spent an awful lot of time on that one).

Obviously I can disable the wifi controller in Control Panel, but this is more hassle. I do need to disable wifi occassionally, to force file transfers to use ethernet (otherwise they will just run over the earlier-established connection and be very slow). I regularly need to transfer 6GB. Also, I sometimes need to force internet access to use a GPRS/3G connection, not WIFI (bizzarely; a long story).

Why can't you just hit FN-F5 on the keyboard and disable the wireless radio?

OK, FN-F5 does work :thumbs-UP:

Should have thought of that.

There is still something wrong with the wifi connection though. If I delete it (from CP / Networks) what is the procedure for creating a new one?

Isn't there a wifi button on the machine body somewhere also. Maybe you have different wifi card in the one having the issue.
