Missing my turbo memory

My X61t has a spare mini-pci slot that used to house the old turbo memory. The previous owner tossed it, and I later installed a custom WWAN card in there. The WWAN worked, but it was a hassle so I took it out.

I'm wondering about replacing the turbo memory now. I see a 4GB card on ebay for a decent price, but I had some questions first. Is it worth it? How much does it help? Can my laptop take any turbo memory, or only specific models on the BIOS whitelist? Thanks in advance!

Great question, actually. I haven't seen any RECENT bench marks of TM in Windows 7 especially. Anyone?

I think if you use the same applications repetitively , and are able to use 'user pinning', then ITM will speed up loading times of those applications and potentially save battery life. Here's a good discussion about ITM -

Hey,

In my searching, I did find this interesting article as well.

Basically, it's a way to ignore the ReadyBoost or User Pinning, and tell the ITM to be your TEMP drive. Your swapfile, pagefile, etc can all be on the NAND.

Very interesting. Did you try this, and benchmark how fast that drive is for read and write operations?

I am sure a fast SSD is faster nowadays.

Save your money. Turbo Memory provides a marginal improvement at best. An SSD is a much, much more effective upgrade.
