Win-XP Blue Screen "Bad_Pool_Header" on software DVD load

#1 Post by SteveDC » Tue Nov 16, 2010 1:14 pm

I have an X61s with Ultrabase and the recordable DVD drive. When trying to install Microsoft Office and Visio using the Microsoft DVDs, I get the above blue screen error as soon as the DVD starts to spin up. The software will install fine on my T40 with CD-RW drive. I place the T40 CD-RW drive in the Ultrabase and get the same error on the X61s.

It loads and plays regular video DVDs OK. Non-Microsoft software DVDs work OK.

I tried safe mode install, but got different error messages (not blue screen) from MS saying there was a problem with the install.

Tried antivirus scan, HD disk error check. Those are OK.

Any tips appreciated.

Gday Steve....
MS Dvd as you rightly found out is ok , and works on another laptop.

"Bad_Pool_Header" is generally due to corrupt REGISTRY in windows. These corruptions generally occur during "illegal/hacked" etc Apps installations process where these 'hacks' are targeted at MS and or other major Apps vendors REGISTRY ENTRY(ies) Keys. However there are number of OTHER WAYS to corrupt your windows registry!

Here is an 'article/advert' that kinda explains lots better....
http://www.articlesbase.com/operating-s ... 86919.html

I have never tired the 'solution' siggested there , but there are number of OTHER ways you can fix/recover your registry etc.

if you dearch at this forum for others who have used and recommendations ,,,, if not PM me

Hope this helps

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion.

I tried the RegCure solution suggested at the link. It found some things, fixed them, but I get the same error. I will search the forum and PM if I don't find something that works.

Regards,

Steve

hiya Steve,

It seems you might have multiple issues ,,, could be Memory, Drivers etc ,,, hard to say

I would like you to search this forum ( after reading this link)
http://www.w7forums.com/bad_pool_header-t4568.html

Might be an idea to send the "dump file" to MS and see what they say is the solution(s)

At the end of day , it might be just plain quicker to REINSTALL Windows from you recover partition. Yes I do know its painful - but at end of day it might be the ONLY option.

Sorry cant see to many ways out for ya ..
