X61s UMTS module

Hi,
perhaps I'll be able to obtain UMTS module of a X61 with UMTS and its funny telescopic external antenna integrate in the LCD frame.
The aim is to transplant in to my current X61s without funny telescopic antenna: can I squat the wire antenna of the Wifi module to connect the UMTS module? Would it be safe to do so?
How would be the general performance sensitivity/transfer rate with the Wifi antenna.
Has anyone upgraded its X60(s)/X61(s) with such UMTS (or third party) rigged in such way?
Thank you

Yes, it is "safe" to do what you want, but performance will be unsatisfactory. It is very easy and inexpensive to do it "right".
Get the correct original factory parts, install the two antennas -- the MAIN on the right side of the LCD screen, the AUX under the palm rest right side -- and it will be perfect. Here are the parts you need:

[Note: There is a "blank" cover on the side of your LCD screen that simply pops out, and in place of it you install the MAIN WWAN antenna. You need to remove the LCD bezel to install the MAIN WWAN antenna and to route the wire.]
Good luck!

thanks for the knowledge: I suspected that the Wifi antenna would have been far for perfect but wondered.
Good thing that an inexpensive part for a dedicated antenna (unfortunately external) exists, however the blank cover you mention is fixed/solid, does not pop out

there is an outline for a slot but I seems fixed, not detacheable

It is not fixed/solid. It can be removed
only after you remove the LCD bezel.
