Need to replace my lcd

#1 Post by davepol » Mon Dec 06, 2010 9:43 am

Hi, I need to replace my lcd, so I opened my laptop to check the fru. number. It's a 13N7216, I checked on ebay and only ones that are for sale are without digitizer (I don't think I'm competent enough to change it myself, the screen - yes, digitizer - no). However there is one auction which seems to be same exact screen which I have but it's a different fru. 13N7221. I checked lenovo website and both screens are listed, however there are letters "TMD" by the 13N7221 section. Does it mean that I can replace my screen with 13N7221?
I know that my description is a bit confusing but I'm not very knowledgeable in this subject and English is not my first language :) Any help will be very much appreciated.
Thanks, davepol

Here link to the ebay auction from which I want to be the screen:

My laptop is: 6363-86U S/N LV-B0489

TMD is the manufacturer - Toshiba M a t s u s h i t a Display. So my opinion is that either LCD will work. I have not actually done this exact screen replacement though, so you may want to wait for someone else to verify that either one will work.

It is not so hard to transfer the digitizer on new screen - only 2 screws and a sticky tape to deal with. It will be cheaper for you to buy an lcd without digitizer. There is very nice video clip for that http://vimeo.com/3933798 - look it and think again

Thanks for replies! I would rather use the one with digitizer. However the video is very helpful indeed. It seems like the digitizer is the same on both screens (G4).
Thanks again!

In general, the X60 machines have G4 digitizers and X61 machines have G5, but not 100% of the time. They are compatible, but they need a different cable. Changing a tablet cable is harder than changing the LCD or the digitizer.

Thanks for this info. According to Lenovo 13N7221 has G4 digitizer so I guess other then different lcd (Toshiba) it's pretty much the same part that I already have. It should work then I think I will actually get it. Thanks!

Just want to confirm that I successfully replaced my screen with this part 13N7221. They are for sale on ebay for around $200.
Thanks

Good to hear that. BTW, why did you have to replace the LCD?

Original screen was getting old (green tint, low brightness). I think that X60t (like some of the T60's) have some issues with lcd quality on certain models (mine was boe hydis, new one is Toshiba).
