X61s Upgrade from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7

#1 Post by umarwadia » Fri Dec 17, 2010 12:42 pm

Hello,

I have a X61s laptop with 2GB RAM and 100GB HD. It came with Vista Ultimate from Lenovo. I was wondering whether doing an in-place upgrade with 7 Ultimate is better or a reinstall with Professional or ultimate. Does all the IBM stuff work okay, e.g. fingerprint, Access connections etc. How much effort is it in days or hours?

Thanks,

Manish

Either way is fine...but the upgrade is probably the easiest. What takes time is the removing of any programs that are not compatible.

The cleanest way is to blow out Vista and install Win7...but then you have the time of backing up and reinstalling all your files and programs. If you have an external hard drive or a DVD burner you can use the Easy Transfer program built into Windows. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/d ... laylang=en

Most of Lenovo stuff will run...not everything as I remember. Wow that was a long time ago. :D

It takes about an hour or two to upgrade...less if you do a full new installation of Win7. You are not the first to do this and I would not worry about making the upgrade. If you upgrade first and see how you like it...then you are done. You will like it...Windows 7 is a very nice operating system. Bottom line...either way is fine.
