Hi,

I just bought a 2nd hand X61 tablet, it runs on the old OS windows XP tablet OS. My questions are :

1. Will the X61 tablet runs on the latest win 7 tablet( also known as Windows Embedded Compact 7) OS?
2. If Q1 is possible then where do I get the OS, is it embedded in the existing Win 7 Home edition OS or do I get it separately?
Please advise.

Any other advice is welcome.

A specific tablet version of Windows 7 doesn't exist, i am not sure about this, but i remember that all Windows 7 versions support tablet support.

Just install Windows 7 Home Premium (or an other version if you need specific things that aren't in Home Premium) on it and you are good to go.

If I installed Win 7 Home premium on my X61 I can use the multitouch interface from this OS.
I heard the Multitouch interface from Win 7 Home premium is not that great, there are other user interfaces such as

1. Mirabyte front face( I think it can be downloaded and installed on Win 7)
2. Exopc slate (Is a separate program available?)

My questions are:
1. Does anyone use them before?
2. Can these interface be installed separately on the Win 7?

I'm using Win7 Ultimate (I have pen only input) and it auto detects pen and brings up pen input panel and reorients screen when slated.

I'm using Win7 Ultimate with my X41T and everything works ootb. Should be even better in your X61T me guess...

I just upgraded from a slowly dying x60t (SXGA+) to a mint condition X61t (SXGA+)! It has Vista Business and 2GB RAM. I am planning to upgrade to Win 7 Professional (64 bit) and I have the following questions.

1. Has anyone had any major hardware problems with the 64 bit version (i.e. ports not working etc..., not peripheral driver issues)?

2. After the upgrade install, is uploading the current Thinkvantage tools the only other recommended install?

3. Does the upgrade overwrite the Rescue and Recovery partition of the original Lenovo/Vista pre-load and render the R&R feature from the hard disk unusable? In other words, I would have to run R&R from the DVD/CD-ROM drive instead?

4. I want to upgrade my RAM. I have heard people using 8GB on the X61t if they have Win 7. I don't necessarily need all that memory now, but may in the future, so I was thinking of buying one 4GB stick now and pairing it with one of the 1GB sticks I have now for a total of 5GB. However, I have heard matching your memory stick amounts is recommended (i.e. 2 x 1 GB or 2 x 2 GB). Which configuration is better or is the difference neglibible:

a. 2 x 2GB RAM for a total of 4GB
b. 1 x 4 GB RAM ANd 1 x 1GB RAM for a total of 5GB

5. Are Patriot, Mushkin, PNY, and Corsair decent memory brands?

Thanks for the help! BTW, when is Lenovo or anyone else going to put in a high resolution screen in a tablet again! 1280 x 800 is hardly acceptable in portrait mode.

I thought of updating everyone about my implementation of Win 7 Home Premium on my X61 tablet.

My observations
---------------
1. My X61 is only a pen touch not hand(finger) touch sensitive. I am using the pen most of time now and hence I would not be able to use the multi-touch(finger) feature as in most modern tablets.

2. I am using it as my music server running i River software and it works very well. This is now my music server and
album/track selection is made via my pen which is very convenient, rather than via the pointer or pad or mouse.

3. Music streaming output is via the USB port into my external DAC.

4. The X61 can run the Mirabyte Frontface software, it is not much of an advantage I am afraid.

The bottom line the system sounds quite good.

You may forgo those you don't need. For example, Access Connections if your network setup is not that complicated.

I don't think using matching sticks increase the performance in any significant way for everyday use on these boxes, don't have hard data on hand through. My advice: Get a 4GB.
