Please help me to restore x61s to the factory settings :(

#1 Post by starobin » Thu Jan 27, 2011 4:03 pm

Hello everyone, I have x61s laptop and need to restore it to the factory settings, but do not succeed yet. I tried all possible buttons and it brings to the BIOS but don't show me the restore page. I tried f1,f11,f2,f3, ctl alt and all f's buttons, doesn't work either. I am stock with it and really need it done by tonight. thanks a lot in advance

Do you have the recovery partition? What OS are you using? is it a factory version or aftermarket version?

the thing is that I bought this machine long time ago on ebay, and it has vista now, but on the bottom I see the seal for xp professional, so I assume that this is installed by somebody after. May be it is a reason? I tried everything and can't do anything. I have a usb cd/dvd drive and xp cd, but it doesn't not let me to reinstall even, it says always some errors and etc. don't really know what to do now

If you are trying to reinstall XP using an aftermarket XP disc, you would need to switch the HDD mode from ACHI to compatibility in your BIOS menu.

Also, the XP OEM COA key won't work for aftermarket retail XP disc. So you would need to have a new set of serial no. to activate your aftermarket XP OS.
