Question about smallest Intel ssd

#1 Post by bp409 » Thu Feb 03, 2011 12:44 pm

http://www.intel.com/design/flash/nand/ ... erview.htm - I am really attracted by its small weight and power consumption so - Is this ssd usable by any kind in X61 tablet? I did not understand that - 'The mSATA Intel SSD 310 Series enables a flexible, scalable and accelerated–storage solution in a form factor that is up to 8 times smaller than a 2.5” hard-disk drive, and weighs 10 times less. Supporting SATA signals over a PCI Express* (PCIe) mini-connector' - does it means it is mSATA or PCIe interface . As far as I know if it is PCIe it can't be used on x61 as a bootable device but can I use it with some PCIe to SATA adapter? What do you think ...?

It seems like a lot of work compared to a regular SSD, which pops right in.

Yes, but if Intel didn't lie in specs we'll gain near 8 times less mass and 10 times less power consumption compared to a most regular SSDs .

The power consumption is impressive, although I am a bit skeptical about the numbers. I'll believe it when I see it verified by an independent review.

The size is irrelevant as far as X61 goes. It will be a huge benefit for a machine designed from the ground up to take advantage of it, though.
