X60 - Dead battery - Yellow flashing light - Battery Recall

I have recently acquired a very nice clean X60 made in September 2006. I presume the battery is dead given the yellow flashing charge light.

I've just read about the Battery Recall Program and interestingly the ASM and FRU P/N's of the affected batteries match my dead battery:
- ASM 92P1174
- FRU 93P5030

The Recall Program involves an "Automated Solution" which I guess checks the part numbers and manufacturing date and reports back to Lenovo. However, in the write up , it says that not ALL the batteries with the stated ASM/FRU numbers are affected.

Does anybody know how the Automated Solution actually works? If it detects a dead battery will it assume that the battery is "safe" (ie. it can't be charged so will not overheat) so I get no replacement. What's the probability of getting a replacement - were the affected batteries a small percentage of the ASM/FRU batch?

Thanks

I believe you are out of luck by now anyway. It has expired, as far as I remember.

There were TWO recalls:
- Sept 2006
- March 2007

The March 2007 recall expired in Oct 2010. This recall was due to batteries showing low capacity or "irrepairable damage" or "battery cannot be charged" messages.

The Sept 2006 recall was due to overheating batteries made by Sony. I am referring to this Sept 2006 recall and I can find NO mention of any expiry. The recall dates also match the date my X60 was made as well as the battery FRU's
