X60 - ThinkVantage did not update video drivers - why?

I have an "early" X60 with a fresh install of XP Pro from the hidden partition.
I noticed that the video drivers had exclamations marks (!) in Device Manager - no drivers installed.
I used ThinkVantage to update things, but Device Manager still had exclamation marks.
However, using Windows Update, the missing video drivers were recognised in the "hardware" section and were installed with no problem.
Any idea why the video drivers were not installed in the first place and why ThinkVantage did not add them?
I'm thinking that the HDD came from an ALMOST identical X60. My X60 does not have a fingerprint reader but at switch on I was initially getting "connect finger print reader" messges. So maybe the video drivers in later X60's were different from my older X60 so the "hidden partition" install did not have the correct video drivers for my X60?
Any thoughts?
