X61 Tablet touch panel cracked Screen is fine

Hello,

Guys and girls you are my last hope on this.

I bought a top of the range X61T tablet with SXGA+ screen WWAN and all the bells and whistles for really good price but the problem is that the glass panel that sits no top of the LCD screen is cracked. The screen is fine and the pen touch pad works perfect however there is this huge crack going everywhere on the glass panel.

For starters can someone clarify for me whats that panel called? Some call it touch pad, some call it touch panel, some call it protective cover, plexiglass... From what I understand its a just a simple glass panel that is glued on the LCD screen to protect the LCD screen from getting scratched when using the pen on it... please correct me if I'm wrong.

Now I search high and low in ebay and on the web and it looks like no one is selling the this glass panel at all. There are some complete units (mind you not SXGA+) on ebay but they cost more then what I paid for the laptop and plus will not fit my unit as the ribbon cable will be different for XGA screen.

So does anyone know where can I get this glass panel? who sells it? can I just use any odd custom made glass or plexiglass sheet as a replacement?

Please help.

Thanks

It's called the digitizer. Check out this thread - http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 60&start=0

Isn't the digitizer the circuitry that goes behind the LCD screen and the front is just a protective glass?

The protective glass is part of the digitizer assembly. There are two versions - G4 and G5. Did you read that thread?
