X60 + SSD = worth it?

I have read the other threads, but I am still unsure if it is worth doing this upgrade. What I know is that the cheapest X61 motherboard is around $180 and it won't be such a big upgrade in performance. I also know that X60 can only use Sata 1.5 so is there a point in going SSD at all?

I don't want less than 32GB, but also under $80 so maybe 32-64 GB range.

I have X60 1707-CTO 1.83 Core Duo, 1 GB RAM (2 x 512), 100 GB SATA

Cheers.

It's not really the speed throughput (okay it is to a point) but the seek time that gives an SSD the edge over a conventional drive in my opinion. I popped an intel ssd in my T60 (Sata 1.5 as well) and it flies. If you can get a decent 32gb SSD for under $80, or better yet a 64GB for under $80 then by all means try it.

Just one thing I better warn you about. They do tend to die faster than a conventional drive. I had an OCZ SSD, 60GB that died within a year (They were great though and sent me a replacement) but just a word of caution.

Boot time and program launch time is where you will notice the difference in performance. I can boot my T60 up in under 40 seconds now (cold start). If you don't need the space, I recommend it. If you want decent storage space on the cheap, stick to a conventional drive.

Here's what you need: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=94317

I have SSD's in my husband's X61s, and my X60s -- they are both real snappy -- it surprised me how close in performance the X60s is to my X200 once I added the SSD.

Get 3 GB of RAM, and any decent SSD (for example - older Indilinx based drives are REALLY cheap right now) and you will be blown away.

Seems like it will fly, even with only SATA 1.5. Thx, I'll do the upgrade.
