X61t: is Intel GM 965 and X3100 the same?

Hi there I would just like to have confirmation on one thing. I'm looking to buy a tablet X61. But sometimes sellers list these as having the Intel GM 965 graphics OR Intel X3100 graphics.

But, according to my knowledge, Intel GM 965 is the chipset AND X3100 is the IGP/GPU/whatever. Is this correct? So all X61 tablets have both the GM965 chipset + necessarily the X3100 graphics part?

Just to confirm with you lot, thanks in advance!

The X3100 is part of the GM965 chipset...one in the same. Yes that would be standard equipment for an X61 tablet.

Gotcha! That's what I thouht too. Thanks!
I'm looking out for the ultimate X61 - with L7700 and SXGA+ :)
I'd figure since the L7500 (1.6Ghz) and the L7700 (1.8Ghz) both idle at the same frequency I can use the RMClock and downlock the 1.8Ghz to the same stock values as the 1.6Ghz and use the extra 200Mhz in case needed :)
Thanks anyway.

I am pretty sure L7700 was never available in an SXGA+ machine. Perhaps a CTO? I wouldn't count on finding it, though.

According to the ltwbook, there was at least one model of the X61 tablet with the L7700 CPU -
7762-H7U L7700 1.80 2GB 12.1" XGA 100G 7200 ✶ Intel 11a/b/g Business32 W Oct 07

Also there was at least one model of the X61s with the L7700 CPU -
7666-B7U L7700 1.80 2GB 12.1" XGA 100G 7200 ✽ Intel 4965AG Finger 8 Business 32 W Oct 07

There was never a standard X61 offered with the low voltage L7700. They all had 'T' CPU's, .eg T7500.

Yeah, but he said L7700 with the SXGA+ screen. I know there was one with the XGA screen.

"L" CPUs are soldered on, while "T" CPUs are upgradeable so it would make sense.

T CPU's are also soldered down in all X series. For example, if you look at the linked parts iist, there is a separate planar for each CPU type, both L's and T's.

That appears to be the case per the ltwbook.

I'll give you the links, haven't got them handy right now. Please bear with me.

Oh this is interesting to know. So can the planar from the X61 be mounted on the tablet version?

No, it's not interesting because it is incorrect, and no you cannot mount an X61 systemboard in a tablet.

Thanks for correcting me. Never tried upgrading an X61, otherwise I would have found out I wasted my time taking it apart :thumbs-UP:

It uses the planar 42W7845

Hope this helps.

Got it last saturday on the mail!

I'm so stoked with this beauty! Just installed 7 x64 wow I'm so thrilled.
Next thing is to upgrade it to an SSD and 4GB ram. And also mod the bios for the Sata II hack. I also seem to have sourced a NMB keyboard as the X61t I bought came with an italian kbd.

Boy I have so many things to ask you guys!
It comes with the 8cell battery, and it came with the 90W psu. Ideally I would like to find a 65W one though. Any inconvenient in using the 65W psu with the 8 cell battery?
