X61T - loud CPU fan

I took the keyboard off and found that whenever the fan goes it's loud.

I have now TPcontrolpan software so it turns it off.
What is the safe CPU temperature, generally it hovers under 70 degrees, under the sun, it went up to mid 80s.

I bought the laptop used. Should receive a new battery soon, the old one was bad. I understand there is a newer firmware which might address the noise issue. Other than that is it a clean or replace CPU fan?

I also noticed that the top left side of the laptop where the vents are the air is not blowing out, even when the fan is going at over 5000RPM, I can hear it go thou but cannot feel the air coming out.......

Thanks.

Is it free of dust?

There is a bit of dust on top of the fan (keyb removed) but pretty clean at the vents (side) or that I cannot see it.

Should air be blowing out?

Yeah, of course. Blow hard into the fan while it's working, or use compressed air on it.

70c while the laptop is idling is extremely high. I think the cpu is supposed to shutdown at 90c to prevent damage to itself.

My x61t idles at around 55c even with the fan off. My fan was also noisy before and I had to replace it. I bought a new heatsink on ebay for around $30.

Be careful when blowing compressed air at the fan. That was what made my noisy fan even noisier. I think the noise was caused by the fan being loose on the motor shaft. Don't blow too much air into that it can loosen the fan or miss-align it.

changing the fan is one way. If you would like to save some money, apply some grease to motor can be helpful. But dont apply too much. Make sure it is dust free before proceed lubrication.

I took the laptop apart.
I reapplied Arctic Silver and cleaned it with CRC 556 - degreaser.

When you spin the fan with your fingers it still makes that tapping noise but now when the computer is on it might be off - will need some days to trial out ... *Under manual at full speed 4251.

I also put the degreaser at the vents.
The X61T doesn't have much air blowing out. Is that normal? If I placed a piece of paper there, the paper does wave around thou.

If the tapping noise come back, I'll buy that HSF off eBay, free courier from Asia.

So now with the AS what are your temps?

After half a day the tapping high pitch noise came back. Time for a new HSF ....

The temperatures:
It boots into Windows registers 45deg (TPfancontrol with no fan).
With some internet usage pretty much at idle - under 60deg. Need to use it for longer to confirm.

If I put it in max fan - under 45deg.

After the clean there is more air coming out ......
