does it exist: x61t multiview/multitouch & 2.2GHz processor?
does it exist: x61t multiview/multitouch & 2.2GHz processor?
greetings;
i am in the market for a new convertible laptop. a 4:3 aspect ratio is a must for me. i have settled on the x61 tablet, the last great tablet with a 4:3 screen that i have been able to find.
i want my system to have multiview/multitouch functionality (i hear those displays are brighter), but it seems as though such functionality is mutually exclusive with high processing speeds. now, i've been shopping around on ebay, and i've been able to find x61 systems with 2.2 GHz core duo processors. problem is, they don't have multiview/multitouch. conversely, i have been able to find systems with multiview/multitouch, but they only have 1.6 GHz core duo processors.
so, i ask, do x61's with both strengths exist somewhere? also, is 2.2 GHz the maximum that the x61 can support, or are there better options available? i am guessing that the x61 cannot be retrofitted with a better processor, so, i just have to go ahead and buy the best one i can find straightaway.
please let me know. thanks much. if such a fully loaded x61 does exist, and you happen to be looking to sell, then i would gladly take interest in a purchase.

Re: does it exist: x61t multiview/multitouch & 2.2GHz processor?
Welcome to the forum.
I don't know all the answers, but you cannot upgrade the CPU in an X61t.
They come pre-soldered to the motherboard, in only these 3 flavors:
L7300 C2D 1.4GHz
L7500 C2D 1.6GHz
L7700 C2D 1.8GHz
You could always buy an MV/MT version and replace the motherboard with the L7700 version, but that's it.
Be aware that X61t already runs fairly hot, so a larger CPU would stretch it beyond the limits.
Putting in an SSD will give you way more speed than a larger CPU, plus you can put in up to 8GB of RAM when using a 64-bit OS.

Re: does it exist: x61t multiview/multitouch & 2.2GHz processor?
i see. browsing around ebay, it looks like 2.2 GHz processors are only on non-tablet x61 systems. does that mean that only non-tablet systems can support that hardware?
i take it then that x61 tablet motherboards aren't interchangable with the non-tablet ones.
so, are you saying that the best i can get out of a multiview/multitouch x61 tablet is an 1.8 GHz processor, an SSD drive, and 8GB of RAM? loaded up and max'd out? i didn't know that x61 tablets could even be fitted with 8GB of RAM.

To be honest, I don't think a 2.2GHz processor would give much benefit over a 1.8GHz processor unless one was running very CPU-intensive computations. In daily use, an SSD and RAM upgrade would be much better value.

The tablets use low-power CPUs like X61s. The center hinge doesn't allow enough space for the bigger fan. The X61 has a larger fan than the X61s to cool the "T" series CPU

How about this new option: using dual-IDA with Middleton's modified BIOS in order to o/c your CPU?
T60p 15" UXGA
