Problem installing Power Manager on an X60

#1 Post by Thinkpad Lover » Tue Jun 21, 2011 8:38 pm

Hi, on my X60, which has a fresh install on Windows XP Sp3 and all the latest Windows updates, I'm trying to install Power manager v.1.99g, which I downloaded from the Lenovo website here:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... MIGR-70602

I encounter an error which basically says, "This program requires Net Framework 3.0 or later, which can be downloaded from the Microsoft website..."

So I installed Microsoft Net Framework 4.0, which seems to be the latest version, from the MS website here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/c ... laylang=en

Net Framework installed properly and shows up in the list of programs, but when trying to install Power Manager upon reboot of the laptop, I get the same error. So what am I doing wrong? And is version 1.99g the right version of Power Manager, since there are a couple different versions listed on the Lenovo website?

Thanks in advance,
Daniel.

The current list of recommended files for the X60 is availlable here:
Drivers and software - ThinkPad X60, X60s

Not sure why you are getting that error. But I wonder if maybe you need .Net Framework version 3.x, and that when they say "or later", they don't mean as late as 4, but only 3.0-3.5 or so.

Here's a link to a discussion over on the Lenovo Support forum that led me to think about this:

Thanks Phil. I think I tried Net Framework 3.0, then 3.5 on another occasion and that didn't work either. But I will try again and report back.

BTW, does anyone know of some other free, downloadable battery checking/info. posting utilities besides Power Manager?

Thanks for the link, zchen :) Great little program, very useful. BTW I was able to get Power Manager installed on my x60s under Windows 7 (Tip: I had to select Vista operating system on the download page here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-62938 and there was the Win 7 version). No problems with Net Framework under Win 7. During installation it does something with Microsoft Visual C++ 2005, and that's it.

Still having trouble installing Power Manager on my x60 under Win XP... something funny going on with Net Framework. Will try to figure it out and post my results here. Maybe it'll help some other poor soul in the future :)
