X60s dead

Hello all. I bought an x60s (or was it an X61s?) last fall for a friend, a teacher who lives in Mexico. I'm in the US and she just wrote me that her x60s has suddenly failed. It won't start up and just gives off a four beep code. She pulled the battery while unplugged, but it does the same. No other leds or signs of life apart from the beep code.

I've asked her for the machine type and to verify the beep code again, but apart from that, can anybody suggest likely problems APART from the motherboard? I'm prepared to buy her a new board, but since I've seen no reports of these failing, I wonder if it might not be something else that needs checking..

Wish I was there to look at it. But I'm won't be for 3 months. Limited to her reports or have her take it to a mexican repair shop (wince) . Anyway, if anyone has any thoughts , it's appreciated !!

Steve

Looks like nobody has any other suggestion.

OK, well, it's a new MB then. Nothing else to it and not worth fretting over!

Hi Steve,

I just made a post at the thread here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=90116

A few observations there might help you. Let's hope for the best,

Daniel :)

Thanks Harry and Daniel for the excellent tip. I suspect this is the problem. Now, if I can find her somebody that's got the Ram to do the swapping...
