X60 CPU upgrade

Hi. I'm looking to upgrade the CPU which is at the moment a core duo T2400 with a core 2 duo T5600 or T7600 on the intel mobile 945GM chipset

I can't seem to find out from the Internet whether the CPU is easy to change. I think I read somewhere that it is soldered on to the board. It says it's a socket on the intel website.

Has anybody done this or know any info about it please share
I haven't taken it all apart to check because it's not worth it if it is soldered as that sounds hard

Many thanks

Peter

It's soldered to the systemboard and can't be changed. Look into an X61 board if you want Core 2 Duo (up to T7300 @ 2Ghz), and 8GB RAM capacity. They fit into an X60 chassis. Of course, it might be better to sell your current machine and just buy an X61 or newer model. X200's are nice...X220's are even nicer :).

X61 is even up to T8300 (2,4GHz), but these are really rare... T7300 is the best option for the price if you get a cheap mobo. Nice if you need more memory and want to profit from full sata2 speed (needs modified bios) on a ssd.

Sure, but not 4:3
