X60T LCD replacement (13N7215) help, w or w/out digitizer??

#1 Post by Di'sTablet » Thu Jul 21, 2011 5:51 pm

Newbie here and first post to ANY forum whatsoever so please be kind...

I own the X60 tablet 6366 4DU and successfully replaced the hinge and LCD cable which was damaged when the hinge broke. Now the LCD needs to be replaced - screen is black/dark with a faint shadow of image and display on external desktop monitor is good.

This is where I'm confused: eBay has somewhat affordable replacement LCDs but I've seen listings for LCDs without digitizer? Not exactly sure which part of the LCD is the digitizer or if it is even possible to use my current digitizer? If so, are there any step-by-step instructions? The Lenovo service videos don't go that deep... Do I just bite the bullet and pay for the complete LCD with digitizer?

I'm currently looking for employment so I need to keep my X60 running a bit longer but affordably. I'm not as concerned with quality at this point, just functionality until I can afford to upgrade.
Thanks for any help! :)

Hi there, Most LCDs for the X60T will come as just the LCD. you need to take off the plastic sheet on the front and transfer the Wacom equipment from the back of your existing LCD.

Here is a video showing what you need to do when you receive the replacement LCD, its a good hours work but the video will really help especially if you want to keep costs down.

I Hope this helps,

EDIT: Just thought i better say its not my video but it is very useful.

I could use some help with troubleshooting since replacement LCD looks the same...

I purchased a used, OEM replacement screen on eBay from a reputable seller but I still have the same issue. The seller will let me return it but I want to rule out any other problems first. The seller guaranteed that the LCD was working on the machine he took it from.

Once I installed it and realized it looked the same - dark screen with faint picture but a perfect image on alternate desktop screen - I replaced the inverter board. Still no luck...

Any suggestions on what else might be the problem? Are there any other possibilities? Do I just assume the replacement LCD's backlight isn't working?

Thank you!
Dianna

Let's assume the 'new' LCD has a working backlight.
If you have already replaced both LCD and inverter, then the next thing is the LCD-cable.
If that still doesn't do the trick, then it looks like either the backlight was also inop, or your motherboard's GPU might be defective.
Which would require a new/used motherboard... :(

Agreed, however you did make sure you plugged the backlight connector from the new LCD panel correctly into the connector on the inverter?

I've found that its possible to plug it in the wrong way round and then the backlight won't work. I did it myself and thought i broke something.

Sometimes when you break the hinge or cable, you can blow a motherboard fuse.
