X61t: Touch Screen Sensitivity and SSD Questions
X61t: Touch Screen Sensitivity and SSD Questions
Hello, Thinkpadders!
Got X61t (7767-BFG) with MultiTouch XGA Screen. Running Win7 SP1 x64.
And I have a question - how to tune sensitivity of touch (finger, not Wacom part) screen?
Now it needs to press with some force - it's hard to scroll or move windows with finger.
And second question - how much (in real life and win7 perf. test) Middleton's BIOS improve performance of SSD (using Corsair Nova 64GB, current win7 hdd rating 7.1, max speed in HDTune - 110MB)? Is there troubles with this BIOS?

Re: X61t: Touch Screen Sensitivity and SSD Questions
Got a OCZ Vertex 2 in my X60T - no problem at all - It's just a sata hard disk as far as the bios is concerned - I think the X61T is a has a SATA2 controller as well, my X60T is SATA1
The Screens are single touch resistive screens, so yes you will have to 'poke' the screen, it is not the same as the capacitive screens used in things like the IPad which require only a very light touch

Re: X61t: Touch Screen Sensitivity and SSD Questions
The X61/T61/R61 (and the X300) have a 'capped' SATA I interface ex factory, but are all capable of SATA II.
You can achieve this with Middleton's BIOS.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo- ... ost6501443
My daughter's T61 runs without any problems with that BIOS.
I'll apply it to my own T61 in the next few days, when I have time.
Realistically, after applying the M-BIOS, on an SSD you will see improvements from 50% onwards.
HDDs do not show as much improvement and: Lenovo-issued HDDs are SATA-I capped!

Thanks!
Got Middleton's BIOS - win7 HDD score up from 7.1 to 7.3, as I think - very much benefit in linear read and not so much in random.
Plus - no problems will appear then I get WAN card
But I have new trouble. Strange screen blinking...only on internal LCD (then connected external display in mirror mode - internal blinks, external - not). This looks like lower part (1/4 to 3/4) of frame is black, other part - normal. This happens on AC oftenly, than on battery, with 3D or video load oftenly too. Tested cables in lid, and "LCD Extend board" - no problems with it. Tested some driver versions (latest from Lenovo for win7 and for vista, latest from Intel) - problem appears. On Std. VGA Driver - runs normally. Any thoughts on it?

Known issue with the latest Intel graphic drivers. You should fall back to the 2009 version of the driver, or first version of Windows 7 driver. Make a mental note never to update the driverEreinion wrote:Thanks!

Re: X61t: Touch Screen Sensitivity and SSD Questions
While not exactly wrong, this is not quite right either. All those famed SATA I+II speed differences are rather some kind of snake oil or self deception. They may be measurable by benchmarks, but have no importance in real life.RealBlackStuff wrote:Realistically, after applying the M-BIOS, on an SSD you will see improvements from 50% onwards.
The main reason to be impressed by SSD speeds is the almost immediate random data access offered by this technology, and not the data transfer rate on the bus. In fact, the sustained data transfer rate is largely unimportant if one mainly cares about the random access to data located on the disk. It is the immediate data delivery which makes a real difference in daily standard usage patterns, and not the higher sustained data transfer rates on the the SATA bus. Whether the SATA bus speed is I or II does not have any impact in real life as it is the random access to data which counts, and which is largely unaffected by SATA bus speed.
Personally i wouldn't bother about SATA bus speeds as it simply doesn't really matter. Almost nobody requires to move around big data files in real life, but does need fast random access. Random data access will be almost instantly in any case, regardless of the SATA bus speed. It simply doesn't really matter, but the benefits will be there anyway.

Fiddled around and now I got 8.15.1825, 1867 and 1930. I think 1867 is the one automatically installed by Windows, right?dmdsoftware wrote:Known issue with the latest Intel graphic drivers. Cheers.

Yes, 8.15.10.1867 is the Windows default (just checked).loyukfai wrote:

That one is good. Tried the other drivers but there's some little quirks, which I've forgotten to document.
Cheers.

Re: X61t: Touch Screen Sensitivity and SSD Questions
Some news
1) Problem with screen found - buggy cable, if screen opened at 100-105 degrees or less - flicker disappear.
2) Change SSD from 64G Corsair Nova to 160G Intel SSD320, win7 rating = 7.7 with SATA2 unlocked.
3) Got Option GTM382 3G+GPS card. It works with pin 20 taped (patching access connections not help me). Thinking about antennae - buy original or install std. wifi antennae from dead netbook. What antenna required for receiving GPS?
